Kennyle Johnson, MPH is a dynamic, community-centered leader with extensive experience advancing public health, human services, and recovery-focused initiatives. She is known for her ability to translate vision into action, leading strategies that improve systems, expand access to care, and drive meaningful impact in communities.
Kennyle’s work in the recovery space was shaped during her time with the Detroit Recovery Project, where she helped expand programming, strengthen operations, and increase access to services for individuals and families impacted by substance use. Through this work, she developed a deep understanding of the barriers individuals face in accessing care, as well as the importance of culturally responsive, community-based solutions. Her experience grounded her approach in meeting people where they are and building systems that support long-term recovery and stability.
With a strong background in program management and operational strategy, Kennyle has since led large-scale initiatives focused on health equity, service delivery, and cross-sector collaboration. She has continued to build on her recovery-focused foundation by advancing efforts that address the intersection of behavioral health, substance use, housing instability, and access to care.
Kennyle currently serves as Director of Health, Human, and Veteran Services for Wayne County, Michigan, where she oversees a broad portfolio of programs aimed at improving outcomes for residents across the region. In this role, she is focused on strengthening systems of care, aligning resources, and scaling community-driven solutions— many of which are informed by her earlier work in recovery services.
Passionate about recovery and resilience, Kennyle brings both a strategic and human-centered perspective to her work, with a deep commitment to supporting individuals, families, and communities impacted by substance use.
